Benefits for Companies of Consultants doing Work-from-Home during lockdown

I have been looking at the positive sides of lockdown & consultants working from home during Covid 19 pandemics.

Firstly, as less to no employees are working in offices, is helpful for companies to reduce the daily recurring cost (operational cost), as reduce in employee can reduce use of stationary or other consumables in office.

Also, there is considerable reduction in electricity, water, internet usable. As in future, we will need to avoid group meetings, cabins or conference room will be locked. So, the AC, light, fan use will be reduced in turn electricity bill will be reduce. This can help companies to save some money in this period of global recession. This can continue if company ask employees to do WFH in future too.

This lockdown period has given some confidence to employers that people can work from home with better efficiency. There has been growth in productive figures for almost all consultants. There are some other reasons to this, as flexibility is more. No tension of travelling, food, clothing (apart from video calls).

Infact, people are working more than their usual duration in office. They are contributing more then they did before. Maybe they are taking more breaks, then that’s the fun of WFH. This is giving more job satisfaction to employees, which in-turn is better for companies. In long run this will be advantageous as there will innovation, new ideas, new processes, process improvements.

Since all are working from home, there is reduced chance of contamination, disease doesn’t spread in office. If Covid patient is found in office, these days office is closed, then sanitization & fumigation needs to be done. Employees close to patient have to go under 14 days of self-quarantine. Also, there is unsung fear in all employee about getting infected with Covid. So cost, people’s tension is avoided in WFH. This is applicable in general too, as in monsoon people get sick & infect others.

If this WFH is put in force after Covid, companies are rent out (if owner) or sublet (if rented office space) the extra office space to other companies or individual workers. This can get extra money to companies.

Company can get people from round the country (sometimes even globe) to work without relocation issues. All comfortable in their home.

Initially, it looked like a big change for companies & employees to adapt to WFH. It was unusual & uncomfortable for everyone. But it has potential gains of productivity, and can make good changes in individual, physically, emotionally & mentally.

Overall, it looks like company if they plan properly with cool minds, lockdown can add some profit to companies.
